Martin Soan led a triumphant Greatest Show On Legs reunion as part of Stewart Lee and Paul Jackson's austerity show at the Royal Festival Hall this weekend in 'At Last the 1981 Show'. All the surviving members of the GSOL appeared, Steve Bowditch, Chris Lynam, Dave 'Bagpipe' Brooks, Sir Ralph, Alessandro and new additions Bob Slayer and Holly Burn.
The first part of the performance was a one-off, never performed before "Malcolm Memorial Mime" which consisted of a 'mime-off' between Martin and a real professional mime artist (Richard Knight), as a dedication to Malcolm Hardee who really couldn't see the point of the art of mime.
"The show-stealer, however, was The Greatest Show on Legs collective. Original prankster Malcolm Hardee is gone but survivor Martin Soan led their traditional naked balloon dance with clownish aplomb. Proceedings climaxed with Chris Lynam reviving his banger-up-the-bum firework finale."

"From subtle, quiet observation to the manic and riotous Greatest Show On Legs minus the late, great Malcolm Hardee who got a huge round of applause when Arthur Smith paid tribute to him in his introduction. Hardee's place was taken up by Bob Slayer who threw himself into the anarchic, chaos of refereeing the brilliantly performed 'mime-off' with gusto. One of the highlights of the show came in the form of the famous balloon dance which led to shrieks of laughter from the audience and some full frontal nudity onstage. A fittingly outlandish and unconventional way to end the first section."
